Spain funds gender equality project

(VOV) - The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) will provide EUR1.79 million for a project to integrate gender equality into laws and policies toward sustainable employment in Vietnam.

This was announced at a ceremony to launch the project, held in Hanoi on December 12 by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs (MoLISA) in conjunction with the AECID..

At the ceremony, Spanish ambassador to Vietnam, Fernando Curcio Ruigomez emphasised that Vietnam is facing great challenges in the labour market, and expressed his hope that the project will ensure both Vietnamese men and women will secure better positions in the labour market and have opportunities to get equal access to social welfare in the middle-income country.

The project aims to help women labourers get access to social welfare programmes and develop a pilot model on vocational training to help women get involved in the labour market. In addition, the project will review vocational training curricula.

The project will be implemented on par with other programmes in the field of sustainable employment and gender equality currently administered by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the UN Women.
