Vietnam has conferred the country’s Friendship Order on World Trade Organisation General Director Pascal Lamy.

The order was presented by National Assembly Deputy Chairman Truong Quang Duoc in Geneva on June 7 during his visit to Switzerland.

The NA deputy chairman also presented the Friendship Order to Norwegian ambassador Eirik Glenne, former chairman of the working party for Vietnam's accession to the WTO, and Arif Hussain, Director of the WTO's Accession Division.

Meanwhile, friendship insignias were given to Cato Adrian, Counsellor of the WTO's Accession Division and Emmanuelle Ganne, the division's economic expert.

Addressing the ceremony, NA deputy chairman Duoc highlighted the contributions made by the WTO officials to Vietnam's negotiations to join the WTO.

Vietnam's legislative body will improve its legal system to satisfy the country's demands for integration as well as fulfill Vietnam's commitments when joining the world's largest trade organisation, Mr Duoc said.

The WTO officials committed to providing further assistance to Vietnam to fulfill its rights and duties as an official WTO member.
