The Vietnam Footwear Association has reported that the export turnover of leather footwear in 2006 reached US$3.55 billion, an increase of 17 percent compared to 2005.

Due to the anti-dumping lawsuit against Vietnamese leather-capped footwear in the EU market, many enterprises had to narrow their production scale and reduce their export volume.

However, exports of sneakers, sandals and slippers continued to increase as most new designs suited customers’ taste.

The association warned enterprises to further diversify their products and markets to minimize risks in case of changes in major markets and make production plans well in advance so that they can quickly fulfil small orders.
