Eight new coronavirus cases confirmed, all related to Da Nang

VOV.VN - The overall number of positive coronavirus cases in Vietnam climbed to 446 after the Ministry of Health announced the discovery of a further eight cases of local transmission in the central city of Da Nang on July 29 morning.

The new confirmed patients have boosted the number of cases caused by community transmission in Vietnam to 30 since July 25, when the first such case was detected in more than three months.

Among the positive cases recorded so far, 77 active cases are receiving treatment at medical facilities and 369 have fully recovered from the virus, including four announced to be COVID-19 free on July 28.

Through extensive investigation and surveillance, the Da Nang Center for Disease Control has sampled suspected cases for testing, and the test results reported 8 cases positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on July 28.

The Da Nang Center for Disease Control is pushing ahead with epidemiological investigations while making a list of close contacts to thoroughly handle outbreaks in a bid to prevent the virus from further spreading.

According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, among those who are undergoing treatment, nine have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once and three negative at least twice.

More than 16,240 people who had close contact with COVID-19 patients or came from pandemic-hit regions are in quarantine with 375 at hospitals, and the remainders at concentrated sites and at their home or places of residence.

Meanwhile, with the detection of three coronavirus cases on July 28 evening, Quang Nam is set to close entertainment venues such as bars, internet shops, karaoke and massage parlors, cinemas and disco bars alongside Hoi ancient town as a means of curbing the spread of the novel coronavirus to the wider community.

Meanwhile, admission to famous sites and services taking visitors to islands and craft villages around town have been ground to a halt.
