Ministry targets quality education

(VOV) - Vietnam’s education policy focus is regularly shifting from the right to education in general to the right to quality education.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien made the statement at a ceremony launching Global Education Week in Chi Linh District, Hai Duong Province on April 23.

Hien said students can acquire comprehensive and worthwhile knowledge if they are guided by qualified teachers. Good teachers are key to ensuring the quality of education, meaning the ministry will prioritise improving teacher recruitment and working conditions.

Global Education Week lasting from April 21 to 28 is themed around the right of every student and learner to qualified and capable teachers. It emphasises the importance of teacher training reform.

UN Resident Coordinator Pratibha Mehta concurred that updating the teacher education and training system is essential to ensuring all new teachers - especially those in remote and disadvantaged areas - receive the necessary support.

During the week, schools nationwide will hold conversations and dialogues between students, parents, teachers, and local leaders to discuss potential measures to support teachers.

A column entitled “Good teachers for Learners in the 21st century” will be opened for submissions at Education and Times Press and Education and Science Magazine. Readers will be able to offer their own opinions on what makes a good teacher in modern Vietnam.
