Vietnamese student wins at Russian music festival

An award ceremony was held at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow, Russia on December 18.

Thang, currently a fourth year student at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, won in the category of wind ensemble harmonisation. Meanwhile, the second prize went to two Russian contestants and no first prize was awarded.

In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency, Assoc. Prof. Igor Nikolaevich Savinov of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, said Thang’s performance is a huge achievement as no first prize was awarded.

In early December, Thang won second prize in a piano composition contest.

Launched in 2013, the music festival aims to improve training quality and update new pedagogy in music education establishments, as well as share achievements of young musicians.

An array of activities was held within the framework of the festival, including a composition contest and a roundtable with the participation of leading experts.
