Vietnam, New Zealand beef up army cooperation

VOV.VN - Lieutenant General and Deputy Minister of Defence Phan Van Giang on April 3 hosted a reception for the visiting Chief of Army of New Zealand,Peter Kelly, in Hanoi.

Giang who is also Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) hailed the active cooperation between the two armies in line with their memorandum of understanding on defence cooperation signed in 2013 and their comprehensive partnership.

He suggested both sides should further intensify the exchange of delegations and experience on UN peacekeeping missions.

Major General Kelly said he hopes the two armies will expand joint activities such as human resources training, marine security cooperation, disaster aid and UN peacekeeping missions

The same day, Kelly and Deputy Chief of the VPA’s General Staff Pham Ngoc Minh held talks and had a working visit to the commando high command and Vietnam peacekeeping centre.
