As many as 35,000 prisoners will be considered for amnesty in 2010 under a recent decision made by the State President.

Under the decision, those who have been changed with another crime, have got clemency earlier, and had more than two convictions, or have committed serious crimes prejudicial to national security will be not included in the consideration of amnesty.

At a meeting to carry out the President’s decision in Hanoi on June 10, Deputy Minister of Public Security Le The Tiem said it is necessary to ensure that considering and checking amnesty cases are conducted in a careful, objective, public and transparent manner. He urged local authorities to pay attention to helping released prisoners re-integrate into the community.
