The Laos organising board of the 25th SEA Games is now taking measures to ensure security for the region’s largest sports event, which the country will host for the first time.
With the large number of athletes, officials and VIPs involved in the biennial championships, security has been heightened more than a week before the official start of the games on December 9.
Groups of police can be found at almost every kilometre along the main roads in Vientiane and access to competition venues is heavily controlled to ensure that only those with the right ID/ AD passes are allowed in.
The SEA Games organising committee announced that the Prime Ministers of Cambodia, Thailand, East Timor and Vietnam will attend the US$4-million glittering opening ceremony.
