Author of “The Wolf of Wall Street” to visit Vietnam

(VOV) - Jordan Belfort, a securities billionaire, and author of the autobiography “The Wolf of Wall Street” is set to arrive in Vietnam and hold exchanges with Vietnamese audiences on November 8-9.

Belfort will forever be associated with a US penny stock fraud scheme he ran in the 1990s that employed 1,000 brokers at its peak, before the US Securities and Exchange Commission shut down his company and he was arrested by the FBI in 1998.

Convicted of money laundering and securities fraud in 2003, he received a four-year prison sentence, but he served only 22 months and was ordered to pay US$110.4 million to a victim compensation fund.

During his visit to Vietnam, Belfort will hold dialogues with the public to talk about his intriguing life as the “wolf” of the Wall Street stock market and how he turned his life around. Belfort forever an eternal optimist believes “we are not the mistakes of our past, but we all are the resources and capabilities that we gleam from out past.”

Belfort told his own life’s story in the memoir “The Wolf of Wall Street” about a boy who sold ice creams in the street during summers in Italy and became a millionaire in a minute.

“The Wolf of Wall Street” is a nickname given by the securities circle to talk about Belfort who became a millionaire in the stock market when he was only 26 and was sent to prison at the age of 36.

Jordan also penned a second autobiography entitled “Catching the Wolf of Wall Street”. His books have been published in 43 nations in the world in 18 different languages.

A movie based on the autobiography made its debut earlier this year with the participation of famous actor Leonardo Di Caprio, which has been well received and has been nominated for five Oscars.
