More than 200 local and international firms are displaying their latest hi-tech products and services at the 13th annual Vietnam Computer Electronics World Expo 2008 (VCW) which opened in Ho Chi Minh City on July 16.

The exhibition, covering an area of 8,000sq.m, is the largest event of its kind in Vietnam and Indochina.

 

The event is expected to draw more than 260,000 visitors interested in hi-tech devices and technologies.

 

International brand names exhibited at the event include Canon, Asus, Gigabyte, Samsung, Intel, Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Hitachi, LG, Fujifilm, JVC, Acer, Olympus, Brother and AOC.

 

This year’s information technology spending is estimated at about US$2 billion (including hardware, software and services), an increase of 15 percent over last year.

 

According to the Vietnam Electronic Industries Association, the number of digital products used in the country is expected to increase by more than 10 percent between now and 2010.

 

VCW 2008, organized by the US-based International Data Group (Idg) and HCM City Computer Association and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will run until July 19.
