Phu Yen provides free heart defect screenings for needy kids

The Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of central Phu Yen province teamed up with Tam Duc Heart Hospital to provide free screening tests on congenital heart defects for local needy children on April 9.

About 500 poor children under 16 were offered examination. The children’s families will be guided to apply for support from the Fund for Vietnamese Children of Phu Yen, HCM City’s Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients, the Children Action or the Government as they cannot afford surgery.

Doctors are providing free congenital heart defects for children in Phu Yen.
Phu Yen has financially supported heart surgeries for underprivileged children since 2003.

According to Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Minh Hien, the province offers free screening tests for about 500 poor children every year.
