Australia hails relations with Vietnam

(VOV) - Senate President John Hogg lauded the effective cooperation between the legislative bodies of Australia and Vietnam at a March 25 reception for newly-accredited ambassador Luong Thanh Nghi.

The two parliaments have worked together to share experience in legislation and in strengthening relations between parliamentarians and voters, as well as between legislative committees and the social communities, Hogg said.

He suggested the two parliaments increase visit exchanges to promote mutual understanding and friendship.

Ambassador Nghi spoke highly of the recent positive development of the Vietnam-Australia comprehensive partnership, noting the May 2013 agreement on cooperation between the Vietnam National Assembly and the Australian Parliament will bring bilateral parliamentary ties to new heights.

The Vietnamese diplomat vowed to try his best to further strengthen Vietnam-Australia ties during his current office term.

He conveyed Vietnam National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung’s invitation to John Hogg and the Australian Parliament to attend the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly to be held in Hanoi in March 2015.
