The Lao newspaper Passason, the official organ of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, carried an article on July 18 to mark the 34th anniversary of the signing of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship and Cooperation Treaty (July 18).

The paper highlighted the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos that was nurtured by late President Ho Chi Minh and late President Kaysone Phomvihan, and has been continually strengthened by generations of leaders in both countries.

This is an important factor in ensuring the success of each country’s revolution, it said.

Passason wrote that the bilateral relationship has been consolidated and developed in all fields, bringing practical benefits to both nations and contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

The paper also reviewed significant achievements of the two countries’ relationship, especially in the field of investment. Vietnam is currently Laos’ biggest investor and has implemented many projects effectively. The two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Laos is expected to reach US$2 billion by 2015.
