Wrestlers to be sponsored by Korean company

Hanoian wrestlers will be supported by Korean company Sungshin Vina with up to VND1 billion (US$45,000) per year, following a sponsorship signing ceremony in Hanoi on December 17.

The agreement calls for wrestlers to receive at least VND6 million (US$270) per month based on their level, which will be increased if they can win in competitions.

Sungshin Vina, who also owns a wrestling club in their home country, provides uniforms, equipment and long-term training courses abroad for the city’s athletes.

Also, Sungshin Vina representatives said wrestlers could be recruited to the company after their retirement.

In the agreement, 10 wrestlers, including Olympian Vu Thi Hang, will join the Sungshin Vina group under the Hanoi Wrestling Club. They will be trained by coach Kim Min-chul from the Republic of Korea.

“Donators often come to popular sports, such as football and volleyball. It is great news that wrestling has found one. It is a dream come true for our athletes,” said Phan Anh Tu, deputy director of Hanoi Sport Training Centre.

The contract is valid for one year, but both sides expect a long relationship will continue into the future.

Sungshin Vina has been operating businesses in construction materials in Vietnam since 2007.
