The internationally acclaimed Jesse Dayton Band of the US will kick off a trans-Vietnam tour at HCM City's Youth Cultural House on May 9.

Jesse Dayton's brand of country music has been labelled "turbo country", thanks to his rockabilly roots. He released his solo debut Raisin' Cain in 1995. Thanks to positive reviews, he was asked to engage in live and studio work for country luminaries such as George Strait, Waylon Jennings and Ray Price. His 2004 album Country Soul Brother combined honky-tonk, rockabilly, soul and folk styles. Dayton's March release South Austin Sessions showcases the musical influences of well-known artists including Townes Van Zandt, Waylon Jennings, Jim Lauderdale and ZZ Top.

The four-member band comprises vocalist Dayton, drummer Eric Tucker, bass guitarist James Elmo Sproat and steel guitar player Nathan Fleming.

After their performance in HCM City, the band will travel to the southern coastal city of Vung Tau for another one-night concert on May 12. Two other concerts are scheduled for the northern port city of Hai Phong and Hanoi on May 15 and May 17, respectively.

During their tour of Vietnam, which will last till May 18, the Jesse Dayton Band will also conduct master classes for students of the Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi Conservatoires of Music.
