Top security official visits Thailand

Minister of Public Security To Lam has proposed Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha instruct relevant bodies to accelerate the signing of an agreement on criminal extradition as a legal foundation for the two countries’ law enforcement forces.

Minister of Public Security To Lam
Lam made the proposal at a meeting with the Thai Prime Minister during his visit to Thailand to attend the first high-level dialogue between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Thai Royal Police in Bangkok on December 19.

PM Prayut Chan-ocha descrined the Vietnamese official’s trip as a contribution to boosting the relationship between the two countries in general and between their security agencies in particular.

Minister Lam affirmed that Vietnam considers Thailand an important partner in ASEAN. He also spoke highly of the role and position of Thailand in the formation and development of the ASEAN Community in the context of complicated developments in the region and the world, including those related to trans-national and drug crimes, human trafficking, water security, and maritime security and safety.

At this dialogue, the two sides planned to discuss collaboration between the two countries’ security forces in preventing trans-national, drug, and environmental crimes, he revealed.

He emphasised the need to enhance cooperation in developing, manage and use Mekong water sustainably and effectively for the common interests of the river’s lower area.

Minister Lam also urged the Thai PM to continue creating conditions for his ministry to further effective affiliations with Thailand’s relevant agencies in all fields, contributing to ensuring security and order in each nation.

Earlier, the Vietnamese delegation paid respect to late Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The same day, Minister Lam visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand and attended a ceremony to launch air routes between Vietnam and Thailand operated by low-cost airline VietJet Air.
