Science-tech department governs Korea-Vietnam Incubator Park

The Can Tho municipal Department of Industry and Trade transferred its governing role in the Korea-Vietnam Incubator Park (KVIP) to the municipal Department of Science and Technology during a local meeting on May 31.

KVIP is a joint project between the Vietnamese and Republic of Korea (RoK) governments with total investment of US$21.13 million, US$17.7 million of which is non-refundable official development assistance from the RoK. Covering 4.5ha, the project aims to support technological firms in the Mekong Delta and Can Tho in particular to perform research.

Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Truong Quang Hoai Nam said KVIP is strong in modern technology, with qualified advisors and State incentives but its links with enterprises remain weak. He suggested building a business database to improve this.

KVIP Director Pham Minh Quoc said KVIP will hold seminars and sign memoranda of understanding on cooperation with institutes and colleges to disseminate KVIP’s information to high-tech firms at home and abroad.

Both sides will make a list of experts, equipment and applicable scientific topics for mutual use.

In collaboration with the Vietnam Engine and Agricultural Machinery Corporation, KVIP will display technological products invented by its firms.

The municipal Department of Industry and Trade also plans to help KVIP commercialse its products.

In recent years, KVIP has partnered with seven local universities and colleges, built a database on equipment with the Can Tho Technical Economic College and worked with 27 regional scientists.
