The Vietnam - Cambodia Friendship Association held a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City on August 3.

Meng Sam An, member of the Central Committee of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Minister of Women’s Affairs, expressed her delight at the fine development of Vietnam and Cambodia relations in recent times. She said the two countries have signed a number of co-operative agreements on economics, culture and other fields and established an inter-governmental committee to direct the implementation of these agreements. Their sectors have also organised seminars to come up with measures to boost co-operation.

She briefed the meeting on the results of the recent Cambodian parliamentary election in which the CPP won 90 out of 123 seats.

For his part, Le Thanh Hai, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Municipal Party Committee, said that the two countries should seek to fully exploit their potential to bring about practical benefits.

The meeting devised measures to foster friendship and co-operation and to achieve two-way trade turnover of US$2 billion by 2010
