Lao Cai police bust biggest drug trafficking ring

VOV.VN - The Anti-Drug Trafficking Department in the northern province of Lao Cai has successfully razed the biggest drug smuggling ring in the locality so far.

At 4 pm on July 13, Lao Cai police arrested three suspects for smuggling a large quantity of drugs from Lao Cai to Sapa tourist site in Tong Chu hamlet, Coc San commune, Bat Xat district.

The local police seized a total of 23 kilos of methamphetamine and 18,000 pills of amphetamine concealed in 26 nylon bags within two backpacks.

According to the results of preliminary investigations, the three suspects were named as Sung A Sinh, Thao A Nha, and Vang A Hau from Dien Bien province. The three drug traffickers began their journey from Dien Bien to Lao Cai by motorbike on the morning of July 13, carrying the backpacks filled with drugs.  They were arrested as they set foot in the centre of Lao Cai province.

The total value of the drugs is VND208 million. This is the largest quantity of drugs being trafficked through Lao Cai to have been confiscated so far.
