The Executive Board of the Global Fund for Tuberculosis Prevention launched the second phase of its anti-TB project in Vietnam in the central city of Da Nang on July 8.
The second phase of the programme, which has a funding of US$7.5 million and will continue until 2009, will be implemented in all 64 provinces and cities.

The first phase, carried out in the 2004-2006 period, developed a TB combating network in remote, rural and ethnic minority-inhabited areas and aided health workers in 38 districts, eight districts more than planned.

In addition, the project has supplied devices and equipment to help with the detection, management and treatment of TB patients in remote and rural areas. As a result, the rate of recovery of TB patients in benefited-districts has increased from 85.7 percent in 2003 to 93.3 percent in 2005.
