Cuban newspaper Gran-ma, the official organ of the Communist Party of Cuba, has run an article praising the life and revolutionary career of General Vo Nguyen Giap on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
Running with the title “100 years of the legendary soldier,” the newspaper highlights General Vo Nguyen Giap as one of the most outstanding figures in Vietnam’s history and a great friend of the Cuban people.
It says General Giap’s life has closely associated with the Vietnamese people’s struggle for national liberation as well as the founding and establishment of the Vietnam People’s Army.
The article relates the life of hardships but extreme glory of General Giap from hí childhood to adulthood, joining revolutionary activities and becoming the first general of the Vietnam People’s Army.
The newspaper also reviewed important milestones in his commanding career with the peak being the 1954 Dien Bien Phu Campaign against the French colonialists and then the protracted anti-US resistance war for national reunification.
It quotes Marcel Bigeard, a famous general of the French army, as saying that General Giap commanded his army to experience from this victory to the other over the past 30 years. It was an unprecedented exploit.
On the occasion of Giap’s 100th birthday, Clarin, a national daily with the highest circulation figure in Argentina, also ran an article honouring his life and revolutionary career.
Entitled “Final victory of legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap: the Vietnamese hero turns 100 years old”, the article praises the role of the brilliant military leader in building the Vietnamese army and turning Vietnam into one of the first countries that combined the people’s war with the political struggle to fulfill the goal of national independence and liberation.
