The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-Chile Unity and Friendship Association held a meeting in Hanoi on September 16 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Chile’s Independence Day (September 18, 1810).

Participants included Chilean Ambassador to Vietnam Fernando Urrutia.

The Vice President of the Association, Nguyen Duy Cuong, sent congratulations to the Chilean State and people on this anniversary and expressed his wish that the new ambassador will help the association promote the ties of friendship between the two countries.

Mr Cuong also took the opportunity to send greetings to the men trapped by a mine collapse in Chile on August 5 and asked the Chilean ambassador to convey gifts from Vietnamese friends to the Chilean miners.

Ambassador Urrutia thanked the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-Chile Unity and Friendship Association for the meeting and spoke about Chile’s difficulties caused by the global economic crisis and a recent earthquake.
