Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and the Border Guards met with their Laotian counterparts to step up cooperation in the combat against drug crimes on September 28.

Since the beginning of 2008, both police forces have investigated 3,000 cases and discovered 5,800 crimes.  They also collected 160 kg of heroin, 2,593 kg of cannabis, nearly 100kg of opium and more than 2.8 million ecstasy tablets.

Vietnam's Border Guards also uncovered dozens of smuggling atempts and collected 36kg of heroin, 78kg of opium and millions of ecstasy tablets. 15 guns and many related documents were also confiscated.
