Traffic accidents claim 9,000 lives in one year
(VOV) - In the year ended December 15, 2014, there were 25,322 traffic accidents throughout the country resulting in 8,996 fatalities and 24,417 serious injuries, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC).
The death toll in the one year period from traffic accidents saw a decline of 4% compared to the prior year. The total number of accidents and injuries were also down from 2013’s figures by 13.8% and 17.2%, respectively.
In December 2014 alone, 2,065 traffic accidents claimed 724 lives and injured 1,983 people.
The NTSC reported that in 2014, 199,396 cars and more than 2.5 million motorbikes were registered. Traffic police dealt with more than 4.3 million violators with total fines of VND2,577.84 billion.
