  • 50 years ago, the Ministry of National Defence established Mission 759, the precursor to Brigade 125, to open a strategic marine route to transport supplies to the Southern battlefields.

During its 14 years of existence, the route allowed 1,789 ships to travel along, carrying 150,000 tonnes of weapons and goods and thousands of cadres and soldiers to the Southern front line, contributing to the ultimate victory in the struggle for national independence.

The sea trail's "unnumbered ships" became a legend of Vietnamese military art. Brigade 125 has gained great achievements over the past 50 years and has been awarded the title of “Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces” twice.

In the current process of national construction and defence, cadres and soldiers of the Brigade have taken the initiative to protect the country’s sovereignty over its sea and islands.

** Speaking at a celebration in Ho Chi Minh City, Colonel Do Manh Ha, Political Commissar of Brigade 125, emphasized that the achievements made by the unnumbered ships was a milestone in the country’s history.

Ha said Brigade 125 will spare no efforts to uphold its tradition and deserve its title as “Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces” and contribute to protecting the country’s sovereignty.

On the occasion, Brigade 125 was presented the Military Exploit Order, first class.

** At a celebration in Quang Ngai province, Major General Nguyen Quy Nhon, Deputy Commander of Military Zone 5; the High Command of Naval Zone 3; provincial authorities; and other delegates looked back on the unnumbered ships' glorious feats of arms.

Cao Khoa, Chairman of the Quang Ngai provincial People’s Committee, highlighted the achievements of veterans who served on the unnumbered ships, saying that the marine route symbolizes Vietnamese people’s aspirations for independence, freedom, and national unification.

** In Khanh Hoa, provincial authorities and the public offered incense to commemorate those soldiers on the unnumbered ships who laid down their lives for their country.

Tran Van Tuan, a veteran of Brigade 125, said it was the determination to achieve independence that motivated them to do their best for the country.

The Khanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee also presented two veterans of the unnumbered ships with VND10,000 million each.

** The Nghe An provincial Youth Union held an awards ceremony for a writing contest on the Ho Chi Minh Trail at Sea and a “Contributing stones to build the Truong Sa island district “ campaign.

The positive response to the writing contest expressed the young generation's gratitude towards the veterans of the unnumbered ships. The contest was part of communications about the heroic tradition of the Vietnamese people and army during the nation’s struggle for national independence. It also encouraged young people to uphold the revolutionary spirit and contribute to protecting the nation’s sovereignty over its sea, islands and continental shelf.
