Routes into cities overloaded as people return after Tet

VOV.VN - People have been returning in their droves to major cities around the country after visiting their hometowns for the Lunar New Year festival (Tet) and the volume of traffic is causing severe congestions at Build-Transfer-Operate (BOT) toll stations.

At the southern gateway of Hanoi, an influx of cars from Phap Van and Ngoc Hoi crossroads flocking to Giai Phong Street results in a backlog of traffic.

A long line of vehicles stream towards the capital city.

Traffic is backed up at BOT toll stations on the Phap Van-Cau Gie Expressway.

At night on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year (February 19), a thousand kilometer tailback forms as traffic bottlenecks at Phap Van BOT station.

The roads are cluttered with vehicles in front of My Dinh bus station.

The number of vehicles on Hanoi’s streets increases in the evening as people try to get home.

On National Highway 1A people use bikes to avoid the congestion of larger vehicles.

Vehicles from the western provinces set off for HCM City along National Highway 1A. Traffic police in the provinces of Tien Giang and Ben Tre work around the clock to resolve the prolonged gridlock.
