Meeting marks Philippines’ Independence Day

(VOV) -A meeting to celebrate the Philippines’ 115th Independence Day (June 12) was held in Ho Chi Minh City on June 14.

Philippine Honorary Consul General Le Thi Phung briefed participants on the Philippines’ past struggle for freedom and its recent achievements.

She also spoke highly of the two countries’ traditional ties, especially in trade.

Last year, bilateral trade between the Philippines and Vietnam reached US$2.8 billion. Rice was Vietnam’s key export to the Philippines, earning US$475 million.

She noted that Philippine investment in Vietnam has kept increasing, hitting US$264 million in 64 projects. Its main increatment areas include automobile, aviation, and education.

Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Municipal People’s Committee Le Manh Ha said the relationship between his city and Manila has developed well.

Both sides have frequently exchanged delegations to boost cooperation in education, trade and investment, which has promoted the positive relations between the two nations.
