The International Agricultural Exhibition (AgroViet 2009) opened in Hanoi on November 12 with 400 stands displaying achievements in the fields of cultivation, forestry and fishery.

This year’s exhibition on the theme” Quality, safety and sustainable development” has drawn the participation of 200 Vietnamese businesses and foreign ones from China, India, Belgium, the US, Japan and the Republic of Korea.

On display are special agricultural products from many regions across the country including Lo Ren’s star apple, Hoa Loc’s mangoes, Lai Chau’s grape fruit and salmon.

Other exhibits include machines invented by the farmers for agricultural production and procession, such as combine harvester, coconut and corn thresher and seed-sowing machine.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Diep Kinh Tan, said that Vietnam’s agriculture has grown in both quality and quantity to ensure its products meet standards of food hygiene for export and regulations concerning the domestic consumer’s health and safety.

The  5-day exhibition is a good opportunity for businesses to boost trade and improve the competitiveness of domestic products, he added.
