A conference of Government Steering Boards for Land Border Demarcation and Marker Planting with China and Cambodia took place in northern Ha Long City, Quang Ninh province on April 9.

The conference chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem drew the participation of representatives from relevant agencies, heads of provincial People’s Committees and key members of the Steering boards from 17 provinces sharing borders with China and Cambodia.

Participants in the conference agreed on plans and measures to facilitate the work with the aim of finalizing the border demarcation and marker planting with China and Cambodia by 2008 as agreed by senior leaders of Vietnam and the two countries.

They considered 2007 as a pivotal year for demarcating the country’s borderline with China and also a start of Vietnam-Cambodia land border demarcation and marker planting.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem stressed that border demarcation and the planting of border markers are of great significance to the country’s internal and external affairs, security and socio-economic development, helping to enhance the lives of people living along the borders and develop the relations of friendship with neighbouring countries.
