Vietnam and Laos will prioritise cooperation programs in the field of information, energy, natural disaster prevention, quality and measurement, and intellectual property management in future.

They will boost bilateral cooperation in applying scientific and technological advances, especially in provinces sharing common borders, such as Quang Tri of Vietnam and Savanakhet and Salavan of Laos.

The agreement was reached at a workshop held in the central city of Dong Hoi on September 6 to review bilateral cooperation and work out future cooperation programs.

Both sides agreed to increase exchange visits between their sci-tech research institutions and support each other at multilateral forums such as ASEAN, ASEAN-EU, and IAEA.

Over the years, Vietnam has helped run training courses for Lao scientists and build laboratories for its neighbour.

On the occasion, the respective Science and Technology Departments of Hanoi and Vientiane signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation on this field.

The event was part of activities to mark the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties and the 35th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.
