Thailand: scorching weather likely during Songkran festival

The weather on the day of Songkran, Thailand’s traditional New Year, could prove very hot as the temperature is predicted to rise to 40 degrees Celsius, the Thai Meteorological Department said.

The department said the weather in Bangkok during Songkran will be hot or very hot and it is also likely very smoggy during the festival.

The weather in Thailand’s regions is forecast to be very hot as well, with the temperature of the northern region, which is experiencing a low pressure, may see hitting 44 degrees Celsius.

The department advised people not to stay too long out under the sun to avoid sunstroke but also warned of possible downpours and hails, especially in the northern and north-eastern regions.
