Strict control over poultry smuggling

(VOV) - The Government has intensified its tough measures targeting the illegal trade of poultry, fruits, and vegetables.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan on December 11 showed the Government’s resolve when commenting the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s draft to stop illegal food imports.

He said the Government will soon request ministries, agencies, and localities to conduct anti-poultry smuggling pilot projects in select provinces during 2013.

It will also strictly control the fruit and vegetable imports to ensure a certain standard of quality for local consumers, he added.

The Deputy Prime Minister authorised the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to officially update information on the quality of poultry imported into the Vietnamese market.

The Ministry of Public Security is responsible for dealing with violations and running checkpoints on key trafficking routes to promptly detect illegal trading activities.

There is growing concern about the import of discarded children and chemical dipped fruits which injures the local industry and does harm to people’s health.
