April – a busy month for athletes at Int’l tournaments

(VOV) - A number of national sports teams and clubs are set to compete at regional and international tournaments from April 7-13.

Two Vietnamese football clubs – Hanoi T&T and XM Vissai Ninh Binh will continue their fifth match series of the AFC Cup. At group G, National Cup champions XM Vissai Ninh Binh meet South China (Hong Kong) on their home turf on April 8 while at group H, Hanoi T&T clash Maziya at an away game in the Maldives on April 9.

Despite their defeats at the National Football Championship (V-League), Ninh Binh are playing impressively at the Asian tournament, with four wins against Yangon United (Myanmar), South China (Hong Kong) and Kelantan (Malaysia) to enter the last 16.

*** Top Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh is competing at the Singapore Open Superseries 2014 from April 8-13.

Expectations are that the competition is going to be extremely competitive and just making it to the quarterfinals will be a success for Tien Minh.

In addition, Vu Thi Trang is also competing in the qualifying round of the tourney.

Young Vietnamese badminton players are set to battle at the World Junior Badminton Championship in Alor Setar, Malaysia from April 7-18.

*** The current national volleyball champions – Duc Long Gia Lai- are participating in the 2014 Asian Men's Volleyball Club Championship from April 8-18.

Duc Long Gia Lai will take on Matin Varamin (Iran), Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler (Japan), and Al-Zahra (Lebanon) in Group B.

*** Aerobic and Taekwondo athletes are also vying for medals at major international events this month.

Thu Ha, Viet Anh and Que Anh and other young athletes hope to bring home medals at the Aerobic World Cup 2014 in Tokyo, Japan, from April 12-13.

Meanwhile, five Taekwondo athletes are attending the German Open Tournament in Hamburg from April 11-13. They expect to gain experience for the upcoming Asian Games (the 17th Asiad) in late September and early October.
