Vietnam keeps an eye on Vietnamese in quake-hit countries

None Vietnamese have reportedly fallen victim to a strong earthquake that shook Pakistan, India and Bangladesh, a representative from the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry said on October 27.

The representative was replying reporters’ queries relating to the situation of Vietnamese during the October 26 earthquake.

The representative said the Ministry promptly instructed the Vietnamese Embassies in these countries and the Consulate General in Mumbai, India to seek to know any Vietnamese who could be affected after learning about the disaster.

The Vietnamese diplomatic representative offices in these countries are following the situation closely for taking prompt citizen protection measures when needed, the representative said.

It was reported that the combined death toll from the magnitude-7.5 quake rose to over 330.

The quake was centred near Jurm in northeast Afghanistan, 250 kilometres (160 miles) from the capital Kabul and at a depth of 213.5 kilometres, the US Geological Survey said. It lasted at least one minute.
