The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) on June 19 held a get-together for journalists on the occasion of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press Day (June 21), and announced its plans for the second half of this year.

Speaking at the event, VGCL Vice President, Hoang Ngoc Thanh, stressed that the VGLC always attaches great importance to the press, which plays a key role in disseminating information and mobilizing the people. The press has also actively taken part in revolutionary movements and national patriotic and emulation movements.

Mr Thanh said the VGCL highly valued the great contributions made by the press to the cause of national construction and defence in general and to the building of a powerful working class and trade unions in particular.

The press has helped Vietnam’s trade unions successfully implement their tasks and raise the public’s awareness and knowledge of politics, economics, culture and society. The press also encourages the participation of the public in national patriotic and emulation movements and highlights good people and good deeds. It also detects shortcomings and obstacles in laws and mechanisms and asks the Party, State and relevant agencies to adjust and amend them in order to facilitate production activities, business operations and improve workers’ living conditions, he added.

In the second half of this year, trade union activities will focus on making preparations for the upcoming 10th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, promoting the strengthening of the working class in the nation’s industrialization and modernization process, implementing set targets for this year’s socio-economic development plan and intensifying the supervision of labour law enforcement.
