A Vietnam-Cuba friendship exchange was held in the northern province of Vinh Phuc on July 24-25 to mark the 57th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada Barracks.

At the meeting, the Vice President of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, Nguyen Duy Cuong reviewed historic moments, especially the attack on the Moncada Barracks on July 26, 1953, kick-starting the Cuban Revolution.

The Political Counsellor of the Cuban embassy in Vietnam, Paulo Fernandez Alberto, emphasized that after the revolution, Cuba focused on developing a socialist nation in which people enjoy free health and education services.

He said Cuba has great potential for developing agriculture, tourism, pharmaceutical processing technologies and medicine production.

Mr Alberto thanked Vietnamese people for their fine sentiments towards Cuba, hoping that friendship and solidarity between the two countries will continue to develop.

Pham Van Vong, secretary of the Vinh Phuc provincial party committee, shared current economic difficulties faced by Cuba and expressed belief that Vietnam and Cuba will always maintain a close relationship.

He affirmed that Vietnam will always stand side by side with the Cuban people in their national development.
