Cooperation programme for people-to-people diplomacy signed

Major socio-political organisations signed a 2016-2019 cooperation programme for people-to-people diplomacy and overseas Vietnamese affairs at a ceremony in Hanoi on May 18.

The signatories were the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Central Committee of Vietnam Farmers’ Union, the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Central Committee of Vietnam Women’s Union, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans’ Association and the Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese.

Addressing the ceremony, President of the VFF Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan hailed the involved parties for effectively conducting activities to boost people-to-people external relations with neighbouring countries, traditional friendly nations and strategic partners.

He said specific targets should be set out for the organisations, suggesting the mobilization of support for people in the Mekong Delta, the southeastern region and the Central Highlands who are suffering from drought and saline intrusion and residents in the central region who are affected by marine environmental pollution.

Signatories will work together in planning for people-to-people diplomatic activities, popularizing information about Vietnam’s policies and promoting images of the country and people.

The cooperation programme is also expected to enhance coordination among parties in rallying international organisations and foreign NGOs’ support for Vietnam’s social welfare, sovereignty safeguarding and national development.
