Foreign Ministry holds regular meeting

VOV.VN - Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang has affirmed that there’s no information that any Vietnamese nationals were affected by bomb attacks either in the UK or in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Hang was speaking at a May 25 regular meeting of the Foreign Ministry in Hanoi.

"We have been updated on the bomb attack in Manchester in the UK and there is no information that any Vietnamese nationals were affected. Concerning the latest incidents in Jakarta, Indonesia and in the Philippines, according to Vietnam’s representative offices there, there’s no information about losses of Vietnamese. 

As an agency for citizen protection, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed Vietnam’s representative offices in the above mentioned localities to remain updated with the situation and inform the Ministry of the latest developments," she said.

Concerning the trial of Doan Thi Huong on May 30, the official said representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia and the lawyer of Doan Thi Huong visited the Citizen Consular to gather more arguments for the trial. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will work closely with relevant agencies in Vietnam, the Vietnam Embassy in Malaysia, and lawyers to protect the interests of Doan Thi Huong in the coming trial.

Regarding Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s forthcoming visit to the US, Ms Hang said during the visit, leaders of the two countries will examine ways to strengthen comprehensive Vietnam-US relations in the near future, especially in politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, education, and addressing war aftermaths. 

They will also touch upon issues of shared concern for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and across the globe.

The official visit to the US by the Government leader from May 29-31 will be made at the invitation of US President Donald Trump.
