The Ministry of Health has started a US$47.5-million project to expand the national preventive medicine system from now until 2011.
The project will focus on upgrading disease monitoring systems and training medical staff, 75 percent of whom are not professional.
Each year, about 3.5 million people in Vietnam contract contagious diseases such as influenza, tuberculosis and malaria, according to the Preventive Medicine Department.
