Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has issued regulations regarding the responsibilities of both domestic and foreign organisations and individuals in Vietnam in the event of earthquakes and tsunamis.

The regulations ordered Vietnam Television (VTV) and Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) to immediately halt any on-going broadcasts to inform the public of disaster warnings handed down by the Institute of Global Physics.

Local authorities, radio and television stations, alert units, onshore communication stations, organisations and individuals have to use all available facilities to relay the warnings to communities in disaster-prone areas, the regulations state.

After quakes or tsunamis, local authorities at all levels are obliged to mobilise rescue teams to care for the injured and search for the missing.
