Vietnamese, Lao NA leaders meet

(VOV) - National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong described the Lao NA delegation’s visit as a good opportunity for further reinforcing friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

At a March 13 welcome reception in Hanoi for Lao NA Vice Chairman Somphan Phengkhammy, Phong applauded Laos on its tremendous accomplishments over the past few years and briefed her guest on the socio-economic situation and the Vietnamese NA’s activities.

The two legislative bodies have contributed hugely to boosting bilateral cooperative relations by supporting each other in human resource training and development and coordinating closely at international forums like the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Phong said.

She congratulated the Lao NA on becoming the Chair of AIPA-35 scheduled to take place in September 2014 and affirmed Vietnam’s willingness to facilitate the Lao delegation’s working visit to make it a great success.

In response, the Lao NA Vice Chairman thanked the Vietnamese NA for creating the best possible conditions for his delegation to share experience in setting up people’s committees’ offices and how to operate these offices effectively.

In addition, Phengkhammy expressed his delegation’s desire to study the operational model of the People’s Councils of Hanoi and Cao Bang and Lang Son provinces and host a session of the Steering and Organisation Boards of the 132nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-132) scheduled for March 2015.
