Egypt, Vietnam eye closer ties in religious affairs

Deputy head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Bui Thanh Ha met with Egyptian Minister of Religious Endowments Muhammad Mukhtar Jumu’ah in Cairo on April 26 to boost cooperation in the field in charge.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed the religious situation in Vietnam and Egypt and each country’s policies for religious practices.

Both sides agreed to enhance people-to-people exchange activities between the two nations, particularly among Muslim communities.

Vietnam respects freedom of religion, Ha said, noting that the country has about 90 mosques and more than 80,000 Muslims who have greatly contributed to national development.

Minister Muhammad MukhtarJumu’ah affirmed that Egypt is willing to help Vietnam in teaching the Arab language and religion, offering to send Egyptian experts to assist the country in Arab language training.

The Vietnamese delegation is on a working visit to Egypt from April 26-30. It is scheduled to visit the Grand Mufti of Egypt Dr. ShawkiAllam and meet with the Egyptian Organisation for Standardisation and Quality from April 27-29.
