State President Nguyen Minh Triet presented the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) on its 64th birthday (September 7) in recognition of its considerable contribution to the struggle for national liberation and construction.

Addressing the award ceremony, the president stressed that over the past 64 years, VOV has constantly developed, deserving to be recognized as one of the country’s leading press agencies, which has helped promote the policies of the Party and State to people and international friends.

In the previous wars of resistance, the Voice of Vietnam always sharpened its weapon against the enemy and gave active encouragement to soldiers at the front. Many VOV staff, including reporters and artists, sacrificed their lives for national independence.

With support from the Party and State, Radio the Voice of Vietnam has successfully fulfilled its role despite attempted plots and sabotage against it.

The State President affirmed that the radio broadcaster has become a reliable voice for the whole of society. With its various language radio channels, VOV has become a multimedia agency that contributes to creating a consensus in society and a dynamic and creative Vietnam.

“I often listen to the radio… VOV’s programmes are very engaging and close to life. VOV has always explored new ways of better meeting the demand for information,” said Mr Triet.

The leader urged VOV to be more active in fighting corruption and refuting misinformation and slander made by hostile groups.

He praised VOV for having twice received the award –‘Hero of Labour’ and ‘Hero of the Armed Forces’.

On behalf of VOV’s more than 2,000 employees, the VOV Director General expressed his gratitude to the state president for his comments and voiced strong determination to fulfil the tasks assigned to them by the Party and State in the coming period.
