Both Vietnam and the US are highly determined to achieve the best results from their negotiations and they are shifting the focus towards the remaining disputed issues.

The round of bilateral negotiations on Vietnam’s entry to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), scheduled to end by late Thursday morning (May 11), has been prolonged with additional special negotiations and is likely to last till the end of May 11 (Washington time).

The two sides are showing their high determination to conclude their negotiations with the best results as they now focus on solving the remaining disputed issues, including the US demand that Vietnam annul its Decision 55 on the garment and textile sector’s speedy development strategy, open the local market for its beef and beef products, abolish special tariffs on beverage of high alcohol content, and further expand EMS services.

The US is also interested in the import of vehicles, auto spare parts, high-cubic motorcycles and cultural publications and films into the Vietnamese market.
