Australia Day marked in Ho Chi Minh City

VOV.VN - The 231st anniversary of Australia Day was celebrated in Ho Chi Minh City on January 22 by the HCM City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO), indicating the friendship and solidarity between the city’s people and their Australian counterparts.

In his speech, Chairman of the Vietnam-Australia Friendship Association (VAFA) of HCM City Luong Van Ly stated since the establishment of the comprehensive partnership in September 2009, the bilateral relations have been expanded rapidly across multiple fields and noted that the two countries’ ties has been on the basis of mutual benefit and respect towards development, peace, and prosperity.

Vietnam-Australia relations were officially upgraded to the level of a strategic partnership in March 2018, laying the foundation for the two sides to consolidate mutual trust and deepen understanding as the way of contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

The VAFA desires to cooperate with the Australian Consulate General, Australian Business Group, friendship and non-governmental organizations of Australia, and the Australian community so as to strengthen people-to-people exchange and cultural-sports-tourism cooperation as well as reinforce the solidarity and friendship between municipal people and their Australian counterparts, he said.

Ly also underscored great potential for both sides to further expand their future ties.

Australian Consul General in HCM City Julianne Cowley said his nation wishes to step up comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, especially in education-training, infrastructure development, and agriculture, which are areas of Australia’s strength and Vietnam’s demand.

She expressed her hope that the HUFO and VAFA will increase their cooperation and support the Consulate General in organising activities to promote mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries for mutual benefits.
