On August 22, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung chaired the 18th session of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption to review their activities over the past seven months.

According to a session report, prevention and control measures have progressed in detecting and dealing with corruption during the reviewed period.

As a result, local inspection committees disciplined 6,534 Party members while local Inspectorates proposed administrative discipline for 425 collectives and 697 individuals.

In addition, relevant agencies prosecuted 163 cases involving 275 defendants on charges of corruption.

The committee is intensifying investigations in several major cases related to the Vinashin group and the banking system.

In his speech, PM Nguyen Tan Dung praised the relevant agencies’ efforts to combat corruption while emphasising the need to promote the dissemination of information on anti-corruption and revamp mechanisms and policies on land management and business management

Mr Dung asked the committee to implement the Politburo’s Plan No 08 on inspection, supervision, investigation, prosecution and trial of serious corruption cases and gave opinions on handling several cases that are already underway and said to be complex and prolonged.
