A project funded by the Swedish Government has improved professional knowledge for nearly 3,000 journalists in Vietnam after a five-year implementation, said an official from the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Hoang Huu Luong, Director of the ministry’s Press Department, unveiled the figure at a meeting in Hanoi on January 29 to review Sweden’s “Further Training for Journalists in Vietnam” project – Phase II (2004-2009).

He said the project organised 37 short-term training courses on reporters’ professional skills, 20 in-house training programmes for press agencies, 12 press management courses, eight training courses for lecturers and co-trainers as well as many fact-finding tours.

The courses provided reporters and editors with opportunities to access modern writing, photo-taking, designing and programming skills. Press agencies had a chance to approach new methods in management work as well as in strengthening close coordination among their departments.
