Eight teams vie for trophy at int’l women’s volleyball tourney

The 12th international women’s volleyball tournament – VTV9 Binh Dien Cup kicked off at the sports centre of central Quang Nam province on May 12.

This year’s event attracts over 240 athletes and coaches of eight teams, including three teams of host Vietnam, namely VTV Binh Dien Long An, Thong tin Lien Viet Post Bank, and Ngan hang Cong Thuong (Vietinbank).

The five other teams are Jiangsu and Fujian of China, Almaty of Kazakhstan, BIP of the US, and Est Cola of Thailand.

Group A of the tourney gathers Fujian, Est Cola, Thong tin Lien Viet Post Bank, VTV Binh Dien Long An. The remaining teams are in group B.

They will compete in the round-robin format in the qualifying round. In the final round, the first and second teams of each group will enter the semi-finals, and two winning teams will advance to the final while the two others will vie for the third place.

Meanwhile, the teams in the third and fourth places of each group will continue to compete to improve their rankings.

The 12th international women’s volleyball tourney is held by channel VTV9 of the Vietnam Television, the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee and the Binh Dien Fertiliser Joint Stock Company. It is scheduled to last until May 20.
