The first international flight on the new Macau-Hai Phong air route landed on September 4 at Cat Bi Airport in the northern port city of Hai Phong, bringing 40 passengers to Vietnam.

With the opening of the route, passengers now make the journey in two hours, first travelling from Macau by high-speed canoes to Hong Kong and then by air to Hai Phong. But soon, they will fly directly from Macau to Hai Phong, according to director of the Hai Phong Tourism Department Tran Trung Dung.

More direct air routes linking Hai Phong with Pusan of the Republic of Korea and Thailand will be opened soon to further promote Hai Phong's tourism industry.
